Simple recipe of the potato pancakes

I grew up in Ukraine and Belarus and I would like to share with you a family recipe of the potato pancakes, which are called in my home as draniki or dyruny. They are a traditional dish of Belarusian cuisine, but they are also a very popular in Ukraine and Russia. So, you will have the great idea for lunch menu, or for dinner party's menu, or for romantic dinner also. Now, you always will know what to cook for dinner and how to surprise guests.


Ingredients: 


6 middle potatoes 
1 egg 
1 yellow onion 
1 tablespoon flour 
1 teaspoon vegetable oil 
vegetable oil for fry 
salt and ground black pepper to taste 

Step 1 

Peel the potatoes and onion. 


Step 2 

Grate the potatoes on a medium grater in a big bowl.

Step 3 

Grate the onion on a medium grater in the same bowl. 

Step 4 

Add 1 tablespoon of flour, 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil, egg, salt and ground pepper to taste.

   

Step 5 

Mix all ingredients.

   

Step 6 

Heat a griddle with a thin film of the vegetable oil. 


Step 7 

Take 1 tablespoon of the potato mixture, place it on the griddle and flatten with a spatula.


   

Fry a few minutes until golden. Flip the pancake and fry the other side of the pancake until golden. Then lower the heat, cover with a lid on the pan and fry pancakes during two minutes. In my case, I reduce the fire from 4 to 3.

So, the first batch of the pancakes are ready to eat.

I come back to the 4, add the vegetable oil to the griddle to fry a new batch of the pancakes.

Step 8

Serve with sour cream.
